about

(19 April, 2020)

I went into quarantine in West Seattle on 13 March, 2020. That spring, I sat on an arts jury. Our job was to review the work of 292 incredible music creators and film makers from the Detroit area. I grew up in the Detroit area, so it was an honor to give recognition to the brilliant artists of Detroit. As COVID spread, I started keeping track of the Detroit statistics, of those infected and those who’d died from COVID. Then I read about the virus' deadly toll in the Wayne County Jail, testament to the ongoing inequality of brothers and sisters living around Detroit.

This song took several weeks to unfold.
