Snoozed Past Gökotta

from Amy Denio: PANDEMONIUM by Amy Denio / Spoot Music

/

about

Matty Noble created an algorithm which takes any text and reinterprets it as numbers, and uses the numbers to make a series of Euclidean rhythms that get added and merged together in various ways to make MIDI notes.

For this piece, he picked out some parts of the rhythm that were interesting and composed bass and violin to go with it.

I added voice and clarinet for the Seattle Composers Alliance’s new Creative Constellations series.

According to my Swedish friend Oscar Mander, "otta” is an old word for the end of the night, or get up before sunlight. And ”gök” is cuckoo. So Gökotta is to get up super early to watch birds.
