Waedi Gysi and I met in 1990 when we played in a large improvising ensemble curated by Hans Reichel at the Moers Jazz Festival. We formed the improvising trio Sonic Renegades with Hans and toured Europe for several years.

In 1993 we formed the trio (ec) Nudes with Chris Cutler, eventually adding bassist Bob Drake. Chris left, and we reformed the group with bassist Mich Gerber and first Eveline Mueller then Will Dowd on drums. We renamed the group Pale Nudes, and released Wise To The Heat on Recommended Records. Later, Fredi Fluckiger became our drummer, and Annatina Escher played bass. Jeroen Visser began as our live sound person, and eventually joined us on keyboards and mixed our second album Soul Come Home.
Waedi developed leukemia, so I wrote this song to cheer him up.
I took his name WAEDI WALTER GYSI and fed it through my musical alphabet. I played the resulting tones on bass and built the song up from there.
