Slugs (Gymnosalyagi)

about

I'd learned a Greek song in 9 from my friend Diz's fabulous book of transcriptions. It was called Slugs (I learned later it was because his sister had choreographed a dance to that song in slug costumes at Western Washington University...)

Bosnian war was going on in 1993, and I thought about lack of steady food during wartime. Maybe all they had were slugs to eat for breakfast.

I wrote words in English & my friend Nikos translated them to Greek.
He told me 'Amy, there are no slugs in Greece.' He came up with 'gymnosalyagi' which means naked slime.

lyrics

shiny trails criss-cross in my path
homeless snails
slugs and larvae

slugs we'll have for breakfast
