about

We live in a twin peak chalet in the rain forest west of Seattle. With us lives Mr. Snake, a good natured three-year-old ball python

I'll let Mr. Snake wrap around my arm then sit down at the piano to play gently while it unwinds and explores the terrain. Sometimes I tickle it with the black keys.

The other night I brought Mr. Snake to the piano and serenaded him with a simple ditty, keeping the sustain pedal pressed down. Our pet python slithered around nonchalantly as the final chord decayed.

Inspired, I put Mr. Snake back in the terrarium and set out to compose, record, and notate a series of gentle rubato etudes.

Serpentetudine Sostenuto translates to Sustained Snake-itude. Coastal Salish say that songs are hunters. Once again, I'm happy prey.

If you want to play these pieces, the scores are the artwork for each piece.
