about

Composed by Amy Denio, Spoot Music, ASCAP.
Words by AD & Jessica Lurie, Zipa! Music, BMI.
I greeted an old man walking in the street, and at that exact moment, the sun came out, behind me. He was wrapped up for cold and rain. The sun blinded him, and he tilted his torso, protecting his eyes with his folded arms. I exclaimed 'The Sun!'. He responded 'The Sun! And there I thought all I had to worry about was the rain!.' Vern and I became friends. He was 80, from Nebraska 'before electricity.'
He passed on in March.

This piece supported in part by 4Culture for the Tiptons Sax Quartet's performance of 'MYTHUNDERSTANDINGS' based on oral histories.
New lyrics reflect Rachel's story of being pregnant with a sailor, going ashore and then he drowned. Her son became a sailor.
